Roof-Mounted Lidar and New Color for 2025 BYD Seal; China Release Scheduled for August 8

2025 BYD Seal (BYD)

BYD has revealed updates to its Seal electric sedan for the 2025 model year, with the refreshed version set to hit the Chinese market on August 8. The company has released images showing that the exterior modifications are relatively minor, primarily featuring a new roof-mounted lidar sensor and some exterior tweaks, according to CarNewsChina.

The inclusion of the lidar sensor aims to enhance the car’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) functionality. Additionally, the 2025 Seal introduces a new light purple exterior color and a red BYD logo on the rear trunk lid.

The Seal will continue to use its original name without any numerical suffixes, contrary to earlier speculation that it might adopt a 07 designation. This decision follows customer feedback. The Seal will be available in three versions for the domestic market.

The base model features a 228 hp (170 kW) rear-wheel-drive e-motor, which surpasses the 201 hp (150 kW) motor of the current Dynamic Standard Range rear-wheel drive, a variant not available in Malaysia. It maintains the 61.4 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The Extended Range single-motor rear-wheel-drive model retains its 308 hp (230 kW) and 360 Nm output along with a larger battery. However, the 2025 model’s battery has been updated to 80.64 kWh, slightly smaller than the current model’s 82.5 kWh.

The top-of-the-line Performance AWD variant continues with a dual-motor setup, providing a combined output of 523 hp (390 kW) and 670 Nm of torque.
