First Glimpse of MG ZS EV Successor Leaked Online: Meet the MG4’s SUV Sister Car

Auto Express recently shared that the second-generation MG ZS will be uncovered by the end of August, with confirmation that it will not include an electric variant. However, a new electric SUV, succeeding the MG ZS EV, is on the horizon. This upcoming model, an entirely electric compact SUV based on the acclaimed MG4 hatchback, has just been previewed for the first time.

Although its official debut is slated for early next year, images and technical details were released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The new SUV shares a strong visual connection with the MG4 and the MG Cyberster electric convertible, though its front design appears less aggressive and features slimmer headlights. The SUV also sports black plastic wheel arches, side cladding, and roof rails, enhancing its SUV-like appearance.

Like the MG4 and Cyberster, this SUV showcases a prominent chrome MG octagon badge on the front, along with a large air intake in the bumper to cool the motors and batteries. The rear design includes a full-width light bar and Y-shaped tail-lights, mirroring the MG4’s styling.

The MIIT details reveal that the new electric SUV measures 4,476mm in length with a 2,730mm wheelbase, making it longer than the current ZS EV. It is also wider at 1,849mm and lower at 1,621mm.

However, the SUV’s official name has not been disclosed, with MG’s UK product chief, David Allison, confirming it won’t be called the ZS EV. The new model is built on the same Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) as the MG4, promising similar battery and motor options, with the top variant expected to offer over 300 miles of range and potential all-wheel drive.
