Steph Curry and Kevin Durant’s Lighthearted Team USA Press Conference Feels Like the Old Days

Stephen Curry is laser-focused on victory. Curry and the U.S. men’s national basketball team arrived in Paris, France, for the 2024 Olympic Games late Wednesday night and held a practice session on Thursday evening. Before that, Curry and teammate Kevin Durant addressed reporters in Paris.

During the press conference, Curry delivered a witty response to a reporter asking who he was most excited to compete against in Paris. The Golden State Warriors star replied with a perfect answer that amused his former teammate Durant, leading to a humorous moment.

“Whoever’s in the gold medal game,” Curry said with a sly smile, eliciting chuckles from the reporters. “Great answer,” Durant responded, as both he and Curry laughed.

Despite the humor, Curry’s sentiment is serious. Team USA arrives in Paris with a roster full of future Hall of Famers, NBA champions, and All-Stars, all aiming for one clear goal: to win the gold medal. Team USA will kick off its quest for a fifth consecutive gold medal against Serbia in the group phase on July 28 at 11:15 a.m. ET.

Tim Capurso, a staff writer for the Breaking and Trending News team at Sports Illustrated, joined SI in November 2023. Before that, he was the lead editor for MLB, college football, and NFL coverage at RotoBaller and ClutchPoints.

A lifelong Yankees and Giants fan, Capurso grew up near New York City and now resides near Philadelphia. When he’s not writing, he enjoys reading, exercising, and spending time with his family, including his three-legged cat Willow, who, unfortunately, is an Eagles fan.
