Jason Blum Announces ‘King Spawn’ as Part of Upcoming ‘Spawn’ Film

After years of speculation about Blumhouse’s planned Spawn movie, it appears the project might finally be moving forward. As San Diego Comic-Con approaches, Jason Blum and Todd McFarlane have both posted an image on social media that suggests tangible progress is being made.

A new script is apparently in the works…

Blum and McFarlane shared a photo on X today, featuring the title page of a script named King Spawn. The script is written by Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman (known for Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and Scott Silver (of Joker fame). The tweet reveals this update.

King Spawn (Blumhouse)

It looks like the Blumhouse film has shifted to adapt the King Spawn comic book storyline, which was introduced by Image Comics in 2021.

In King Spawn, the plot centers on a monstrous entity released from Hell and luring Spawn into a trap. The story delves into why Kincaid wants Spawn to take the throne of Hell and explores the prophecy of the King Spawn.

The development of this new Spawn feature has faced numerous delays. Todd McFarlane had initially planned to direct, and while Jamie Foxx was previously set to star as Spawn, it remains unclear if that is still the case. More updates are expected soon.

Spawn made his debut in Spawn #1 in May 1992. The character first appeared on screen in a 1997 film by New Line Cinema, starring Michael Jai White, and later had an animated series on HBO in the late 1990s, with Keith David providing the voice for Spawn.

In the comics, Spawn is a former black-ops agent who, after being betrayed and killed, makes a pact with a demon. He returns to Earth after his deal, only to find that five years have elapsed, his wife has moved on, and he now exists as a disfigured being from Hell.
