Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Team Up for Netflix’s ‘RIP’

Netflix has secured a major win ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, acquiring the rights to the highly anticipated crime thriller “RIP” starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, with Joe Carnahan at the helm.

Deadline initially broke the news of the package’s market debut a few weeks ago, and sources indicated a swift sale was imminent. Carnahan also penned the script, with Damon and Affleck’s production company, Artists Equity, producing.

Matt Damon teams up with Ben Affleck (Artists Equity)

Following the successful launch of Artists Equity in November 2022, Damon and Affleck have produced several notable projects, including the critically acclaimed film “Air” and the documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” for Amazon MGM Studios. Their latest endeavor, “RIP”, promises to be a gripping crime thriller, although plot details remain under wraps.

The package came together swiftly in recent weeks, with Affleck and Damon seeking a new project under their banner. Interestingly, the duo had previously attempted to collaborate on another crime thriller, “Animals”, at Netflix, but scheduling conflicts with “The Accountant 2” led to its postponement.

However, Damon was immediately drawn to the “RIP” script and shared it with Affleck, and once both actors were on board, the package was shopped to streamers.

With Carnahan’s expertise in crime thrillers, such as “Narc” and “Smokin’ Aces”, and the involvement of two Oscar winners, “RIP” is poised to be a high-octane film.
