The production of Stranger Things season 5 has reached its halfway point, bringing the final installment of the popular Netflix series closer to its release. Showrunner Ross Duffer shared the milestone on Instagram, posting a photo of the large team behind the show and a video of Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, adding a marble to a jar that tracks the weeks of filming. This indicates the extensive effort and time required to produce the season.
In a light-hearted moment captured in the video, Duffer asks Wolfhard how he feels about reaching the halfway mark, to which Wolfhard humorously responds that it feels “exactly the same.”
This moment underscores the camaraderie and spirit among the cast and crew during the lengthy production process. With 24 weeks completed, the total production time for season 5 is expected to be 48 weeks, nearly a full year, highlighting the intricate and time-consuming nature of creating the series.
Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley, commented on the Podcrushed podcast about the extensive time required to write and film each season, comparing it to making eight movies.
The previous season’s episodes were notably lengthy, with some lasting over an hour and the finale extending to two hours and 19 minutes. This suggests that season 5 will likely feature similarly extended episodes, ensuring an immersive and detailed viewing experience for fans.
The filming of season 5 was initially scheduled to start in June but faced delays due to the 2023 WGA writers’ strike and the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, pushing the start of production to January 2024. These industry-wide strikes affected many projects, including Stranger Things, highlighting the challenges and complexities of coordinating large-scale television productions.
Currently, there is no official release date for Stranger Things season 5. As fans await more updates, they can explore other top Netflix shows to keep their watchlists full. The anticipation for the final season remains high, with audiences eager to see how the beloved series will conclude.
