Netflix is taking a fresh stab at the Terminator franchise with an animated series, “Terminator Zero”. The show boasts a talented voice cast, including Rosario Dawson, Ann Dowd, André Holland, and Sonoya Mizuno, joining Timothy Olyphant as the Terminator.
The series explores the origins of the machines and the future war between humans and AI. The story follows a soldier sent back in time to protect a scientist working on a new AI system, while being hunted by a relentless assassin from the future.
Dawson voices Kokoro, an advanced AI that must decide whether humanity is worth saving, while Dowd plays the Prophet, a philosophical guide for the human resistance. Olyphant’s Terminator is a fresh take on the iconic character, still deadly and unstoppable.
Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on “The Batman”, leads the creative team, promising a unique approach that “breaks conventions, subverts expectations, and has real guts”. The show hits Netflix on August 29th, a nod to the “Judgement Day” from the original movies.
“Terminator Zero” offers a new perspective on the franchise, exploring the moral complications of AI and humanity’s relationship with technology. With its talented cast and creative team, this animated series may just be the breath of fresh air the Terminator franchise needs
