The esteemed Crawley family and their loyal entourage of servants, relatives, and affluent associates will grace the silver screen once again next autumn. Focus Features has slated the highly anticipated “Downton Abbey 3” for global release on September 12, 2025.
Currently in production in the United Kingdom, the film boasts a script penned by the creator of the beloved franchise, Julian Fellowes, with Simon Curtis returning to the director’s chair after helming “Downton Abbey: A New Era” in 2022.
The impressive ensemble cast reunites familiar faces from the Highclere Castle, including Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery, and Jim Carter, among others.
New additions to the cast include Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan, with hints of more “fan favorites” to join the lineup.
While details of the plot remain scarce, the previous installment concluded with the poignant passing of Lady Violet, played by Maggie Smith, and the torch being passed to Lady Mary, played by Michelle Dockery, to ensure the continuation of the Downton legacy.
Produced by Gareth Neame, Julian Fellowes, and Liz Trubridge, “Downton Abbey 3” is a Carnival Films production, with distribution handled by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International. The film promises to deliver more of the opulence, wit, and drama that have captivated audiences worldwide.
