The highly anticipated 2025 Volkswagen Golf R has finally arrived, boasting a more powerful engine and a slew of exciting updates. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine now produces 329 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful Golf R yet.
With all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this hot hatchback can reach 62 miles per hour in just 4.6 seconds. Top speed reaches an impressive 167 miles per hour with the optional Performance Package, making it the fastest Volkswagen available alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake.
The Golf R features sleek new LED Plus headlights, a redesigned front bumper with aerodynamic elements, and standard LED taillights. The interior boasts a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and redesigned volume control and temperature sliders.
European buyers can opt for the exclusive Golf R Black Edition, which adds darkened VW badges and R logos, black calipers, and black 19-inch Estoril wheels.
While details for the US market have not been released, pre-sales in Europe begin in June, with other markets to follow. The starting price in Germany will be lower, but it remains to be seen if this discount will apply to the US market.
