Flo Milli made her debut on NPR’s Tiny Desk, joining Atlanta’s Band of Brothers musicians to mark Black Music Month. The Alabama native delivered a high-energy performance, showcasing tracks from her repertoire with the support of her backing vocalists, the Floettes. She kicked off with hits like “Conceited,” “Bed Time,” “In The Party,” and reminisced about her breakout track “Beef FloMix,” sharing its origins and significance.
Switching gears, Flo Milli closed her set with the soulful “Weak” and an acoustic rendition of “Never Lose Me,” which featured an unreleased verse. This Tiny Desk concert highlighted her versatility and stage presence, drawing applause from the audience for her dynamic performance.
NPR’s decision to spotlight female artists during Black Music Month was intentional. Bobby Carter, host and producer of Tiny Desk, emphasized their commitment to celebrating women who have shaped Black music history. He noted that after a year of predominantly male-led performances, they aimed to honor female contributions more prominently, aligning with their mission to showcase diverse musical talents.
Included in the lineup for this special occasion were artists such as Brittney Spencer, Tierra Whack, Tems, and Chaka Khan, each showcasing their distinctive styles and influences on the Tiny Desk stage. This initiative highlighted NPR’s commitment to elevating the voices of women in music, enhancing their Black Music Month festivities with a diverse array of performances and narratives.
