Focus Features has announced the release date for Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly anticipated film, Bugonia, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025. Universal Pictures will handle the international distribution, excluding Korea, where CJ ENM will take the reins.
Bugonia is an adaptation of the South Korean sci-fi comedy, Save the Green Planet!, written and directed by Jang Joon-Hwan. The English language version has been developed by CJ ENM in collaboration with Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen at Square Peg. The film follows two young men who kidnap a powerful CEO, convinced that she is an alien bent on destroying Earth.
The production boasts an impressive team, with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe serving as executive producers for Element Pictures, alongside Lanthimos, Aster, Knudsen, Stone, and Miky Lee and Jerry Ko for CJ ENM.
Plemons recently took home the Best Actor award at Cannes for his role in Kinds of Kindness, which opened to a impressive $75,000 theater average in 2024. Stone won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Lanthimos’ Poor Things, which also won awards for hair and makeup, production design, and costume design.
With its talented cast and crew, Bugonia is shaping up to be a must-see film event of 2025. Mark your calendars for November 7, when this intergalactic thriller will land in theaters nationwide.
