Jamie Lee Curtis’s Push for “Freaky Friday” Sequel with Lindsay Lohan

Jamie Lee Curtis has been pushing hard for a sequel to “Freaky Friday” since October 2022. She wants to play a cool grandma opposite Lindsay Lohan, who would also be a hip grandmother. Curtis talked about her idea on “The View,” saying it’s about humor between generations and the challenges of parenting today.

Lindsay Lohan confirmed Curtis had approached her with the idea, expressing her excitement and distraction upon receiving the proposal. This interaction hinted at the sequel’s potential, generating buzz among fans and industry insiders alike.

Fast forward two years, and “Freaky Friday 2” is now officially in development. Curtis teased the news in March 2024 with a selfie alongside Lohan, reigniting speculation about their reprisal of the iconic body-switching roles. Director Nisha Ganatra has been enlisted for the project, with Curtis and Lohan confirmed to return, rekindling the chemistry that made the original film a hit.

The sequel promises to reunite many original cast members, including Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray, alongside new additions like Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Manny Jacinto. This blend of familiar and fresh faces aims to deliver a nostalgic yet contemporary take on the beloved storyline.

Filming for “Freaky Friday 2” commenced in June 2024, with a planned release date set for 2025. Disney’s announcement on Instagram marked the occasion with a behind-the-scenes photo of Curtis and Lohan in character, hinting at the comedic possibilities in store for fans.

The plot will reportedly delve into new family dynamics, with Anna Coleman (Lohan) navigating parenthood and relationships, including her daughter Harper’s attempts to thwart her mother’s impending marriage.
