Ed Policy, currently the chief operating officer and general counsel of the Green Bay Packers, is set to become the team’s president and CEO in July 2025, following the retirement of Mark Murphy. Murphy, who has served as president and CEO since 2008, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 at that time. The announcement came after the Packers’ board of directors unanimously elected Policy, following a recommendation by a dedicated search committee.

Policy, 53 years old and the son of former NFL executive Carmen Policy, joined the Packers in 2012 as vice president and general counsel. He was later promoted to COO in 2018. Mark Murphy praised Policy’s contributions to the organization, highlighting his role in various aspects of the team’s operations and his instrumental part in their successes on and off the field.

In addition to his tenure with the Packers, Policy brings a breadth of experience in football administration. He previously served as the commissioner, president, and CEO of the Arena Football League from 2008 to 2009, following roles in the AFL and as an NFL executive consultant. Policy’s legal background includes practicing law in San Francisco and Cleveland before transitioning to sports management.

Policy expressed enthusiasm about his upcoming role, describing it as the pinnacle in professional sports due to the Packers’ unique status as the NFL’s only publicly owned franchise. He emphasized a commitment to building upon the team’s legacy of success and community impact, particularly through initiatives like Titletown, a significant real estate development near Lambeau Field.

The selection process for Policy’s appointment involved a thorough search, considering over 90 candidates, and conducting extensive interviews. The transition plan ensures continuity and aims for a seamless shift in leadership, focusing on maintaining the Packers’ strong connection with their fan base and enhancing their competitive edge in the league.

Ed Policy’s promotion to president and CEO marks a significant transition for the Green Bay Packers, ensuring continuity and leadership as the team prepares for its next chapter under his stewardship. His blend of legal expertise, football administration experience, and commitment to community engagement positions him well to guide one of the NFL’s most storied franchises into the future.
