Trevor Lawrence Inks Historic Deal with Jaguars, Focused on Super Bowl Goal

Trevor Lawrence recently secured a significant contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, which includes the third-largest fully guaranteed amount in NFL history. Despite this, Lawrence maintains that his primary goal remains unchanged: to win a Super Bowl.

He acknowledged the external expectations that come with his new contract but emphasized that his responsibilities as a quarterback have always been substantial. He insists that the contract does not add any personal pressure, as he already carries the weight of leading the team.

The new deal significantly boosts Lawrence’s earnings, starting in 2026 with a $37.5 million signing bonus and an annual salary of $55 million, tying him with Joe Burrow for the highest average annual salary in NFL history.

The contract includes $142 million in fully guaranteed money, second only to Deshaun Watson and Burrow. Lawrence will earn a modest $1.055 million in 2024 and $25.67 million in 2025 under his fifth-year option before the extension begins. The agreement, reached after months of negotiation, was finalized before the start of the training camp, aligning with Lawrence’s goal to focus entirely on the upcoming season.

Lawrence expressed satisfaction with the franchise’s direction, citing the addition of key players like receiver Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis, and center Mitch Morse, along with several defensive signings.

These acquisitions complement an already strong roster, including receiver Christian Kirk, running back Travis Etienne Jr., and tight end Evan Engram, as well as defensive stalwarts like Josh Allen and Travon Walker. The strengthened lineup aims to build on their recent successes, including an AFC South title and a memorable playoff comeback against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 2023 season saw Lawrence lead the Jaguars to an 8-3 start before injuries hampered his performance, resulting in a 1-5 finish and missing the playoffs. Despite his challenges, Lawrence’s overall performance in his first three seasons includes significant achievements and some concerning turnover statistics.

With 60 turnovers, he ranks among the top in this category for quarterbacks debuting since 1978, a list that includes several Hall of Famers. His yardage and touchdown stats also place him among notable company, alongside quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Jared Goff, and Josh Allen.

Lawrence’s impact on the Jaguars is substantial, ranking fourth all-time in franchise history for passing yards and touchdowns. His career record as a starter is 21-31, including playoffs.

He is one of the few first-round draft picks since 2007 to sign an extension with the Jaguars, joining notable players like Tyson Alualu, Blake Bortles, and Josh Allen. This contract marks a significant milestone for both Lawrence and the franchise, setting the stage for future success.
