Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has encountered legal trouble for the second time in a month, this time in his home state of Alabama.
According to records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Buggs was arrested and subsequently released on a $5,000 bond on Sunday morning. The charges against him reportedly include domestic violence and burglary, though specific details about the incident have not been disclosed at this time.
This latest arrest follows a previous legal issue for Buggs, who turned himself in on May 30 after being charged with two counts of second-degree animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa.
The charges stemmed from neglect and severe malnourishment of two dogs under his care, one of which had to be euthanized. Buggs’ agent, Trey Robinson, has claimed that these charges are part of a broader effort to target Buggs and his ownership of a hookah lounge in Tuscaloosa.
The Kansas City Chiefs organization has acknowledged being aware of Buggs’ recent legal troubles but has chosen not to comment further on the matter. Buggs, 27, joined the Chiefs earlier this year after stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions. Initially signed to the practice squad, he secured a futures contract with the Chiefs in February.
This offseason has proven tumultuous for the Chiefs, with multiple players facing legal issues. Wide receiver Rashee Rice is currently facing several felony charges related to a vehicle crash in Dallas, while offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Wanya Morris were arrested on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges in Kansas last month.
The team has yet to publicly address the broader implications of these incidents on their roster or operations.
