Devils Reportedly Tap Keefe as New Head Coach

Sheldon Keefe’s appointment as the new head coach of the New Jersey Devils marks a remarkable transition for both him and the team. With a reported four-year deal, Keefe brings a wealth of coaching experience from his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he amassed an impressive regular-season record over the past five campaigns.

Despite his success in the regular season, Keefe’s tenure with the Maple Leafs was overshadowed by postseason challenges, with Toronto only managing to win one playoff round during his time as head coach. However, the Devils see potential in Keefe’s ability to communicate and work with a young core, similar to the talented group of players he coached in Toronto.

In New Jersey, Keefe inherits a promising roster featuring dynamic young talents like Jack Hughes, Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, and Luke Hughes. The Devils’ decision to hire Keefe reflects their desire to leverage his experience in developing young players and fostering a winning culture within the team.

Keefe’s appointment comes after the Devils parted ways with Lindy Ruff in March, with Travis Green serving as interim head coach until the hiring of Keefe. The move signals a new chapter for the Devils as they aim to return to playoff contention after missing the postseason in the 2023-24 campaign.

With Keefe at the helm, the Devils hope to build upon their young core’s potential and revitalize their competitive edge in the highly competitive NHL landscape. As Keefe officially joins the Devils, fans eagerly anticipate the team’s future under his leadership and the potential for success in the seasons to come.
