Sean Manaea, Left-handed Pitcher, Agrees to a Two-year Contract With the New York Mets

Sean Manaea, a seasoned left-handed pitcher, has joined the New York Mets’ revamped rotation, signing a two-year contract worth $28 million.

Manaea’s addition to the Mets’ roster comes with a player opt-out option after the 2024 season. The 31-year-old pitcher’s agreement with the Mets comes after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco Giants, relinquishing a $12.5 million salary for the 2024 season.

Manaea’s performance last season with the Giants was marked by an ERA of 4.44, with 10 starts and 27 relief appearances. His pitching style shifted last season, relying more heavily on his fastball, throwing it 57% of the time. He also threw changeups (17%), sliders (15%), and sweepers (10%).

Throughout his career, Manaea has maintained a 4.10 ERA and a record of 65-56 across stints with the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and Giants.

The Mets’ rotation has undergone outstanding changes, with the addition of Manaea joining Luis Severino, Kodai Senga, Jose Quintana, and Adrian Houser.

The team has also signed center fielder Harrison Bader and infielder Joey Wendle, and acquired outfielder Tyrone Taylor as part of a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers.
