Los Angeles Angels Sign Zach Plesac to One-year Contract Worth $1 Million

The Los Angeles Angels have made a serious move to bolster their starting rotation, signing right-handed pitcher Zach Plesac to a one-year contract worth $1 million. Plesac, who turns 29 this month, has spent five seasons in the MLB, compiling a 26-27 record and a 4.20 ERA in 84 games.

The Angels’ decision to sign Plesac is a strategic one, as they look to add depth and stability to their rotation. Despite a disappointing 2023 season, Plesac has shown promise in the past, with a 2.28 ERA in 55 1/3 innings in the shortened 2020 season. The Angels are counting on Plesac to bounce back from a tough year and provide consistent starts.

To make room for Plesac on the roster, the Angels have outrighted left-handed reliever Adam Kolarek to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Kolarek, who turns 35 in January, has played for several teams, including the Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, and New York Mets. He has an 11-4 record and a 3.62 ERA with four saves in 175 games.

The Angels’ offseason moves have been focused on building a strong rotation, and the addition of Plesac is a key part of that strategy.

With the loss of two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, the Angels are looking to contend in 2024 with a strong pitching staff. Plesac’s signing is a step in the right direction, and the team is hoping he can return to form and provide valuable innings for the Angels this season.
