‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ Reimagined: A Modern Sci-Fi Masterpiece by Tim Burton

Following the immense success of “Barbie,” which garnered eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and became Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing film of all time with a staggering $1.44 billion in box office sales, another female-led project is underway under the Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy administration.

Tim Burton is set to direct a reimagined version of the 1958 sci-fi classic “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman,” with acclaimed writer Gillian Flynn penning the script.

The original film, made on a budget of $88,000, tells the story of a wealthy heiress whose encounter with an alien causes her to grow into a giant, complicating her already tumultuous marriage.

Burton has a history of reimagining ’50s sci-fi films for modern audiences, as seen in his 1996 hit “Mars Attacks!,” which grossed over $101 million worldwide.

Burton will produce “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper, with Kai Dolbashian serving as executive producer.

With a directing career spanning over four decades, Burton has amassed an impressive $4.1 billion in global box office sales with hits like “Alice in Wonderland,” “Planet of the Apes,” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” His sequel to “Beetlejuice” is set to release on September 6, 2024.

Gillian Flynn, a former Entertainment Weekly reporter, has adapted her own novels into successful films and series, including “Gone Girl” and “Sharp Objects.” She will also adapt her novel “Dark Places” into an HBO limited series, serving as co-creator, co-showrunner, and writer.

Flynn’s work has garnered numerous award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Rosamund Pike’s performance in “Gone Girl.”
