Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor and singer Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, actor and chef David Burtka, have signed on as executive producers for the upcoming documentary “A House Is Not a Disco.”

The film, directed by Brian J. Smith in his directorial debut, follows a year in the life of Fire Island Pines, a queer beach town facing environmental challenges and a new generation of homeowners.

Harris, known for his roles in “How I Met Your Mother,” “It’s a Sin,” and “Gone Girl,” and Burtka, who has appeared in “The West Wing,” “Crossing Jordan,” and on Broadway, have a personal connection to Fire Island Pines and were drawn to the project’s vision. “We both instantly connected with the vision of this community and are thrilled to amplify this project,” they said in a joint statement.

The documentary premiered at SXSW and has screened at several other festivals, winning the Audience Award for best documentary at OUTShine Festival. It will open the NewFest Pride Series in New York on May 30 and screen at the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival in June.

“A House Is Not a Disco” follows a diverse cast of characters as they reflect on the legacy of Fire Island Pines and prepare for the threat of rising seas due to climate change.

The film is produced by Jeremy Truong and Joseph Conforti, with additional executive producers Kathleen Flood, Andrew Kirkley, Justin Lacob, and associate producer Matthew Fifer.
