Sex and the City fans will soon be able to stream all six seasons on Netflix starting Monday, April 1. Warner Bros. Discovery reached a licensing deal with Netflix earlier this year, Variety reported on January 24.
Previously, the show was available exclusively on Max, the WBD-owned platform that launched in 2020 (originally as HBO Max).
However, the Netflix deal does not include the two Sex and the City films or the show’s revival and sequel series, And Just Like That, which remains exclusive to Max.
Sex and the City originally aired from 1998 to 2004, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, a columnist living in Manhattan.
The series followed Carrie and her best friends — Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) — navigating dating and friendship in the city.
The show achieved massive success and critical acclaim, winning an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2001. Parker and Nixon received Emmys for their roles in the final season.
In December 2021, And Just Like That premiered on Max, with Parker, Nixon, and Davis reprising their roles. Cattrall has appeared only once, in the season 2 finale in August 2023, where Samantha, now in London, calls Carrie to explain her absence from an important dinner party due to a delayed flight.
A falling-out with Carrie explains Samantha’s minimal role in the reboot.
New characters have been introduced, including Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz, Sarita Choudhury as Seema Patel, and Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa Todd Wexley.
Recently, the Daily Mail reported that Ramirez will not return as Che in season 3, expected in 2025. HBO has not commented on this report.
