Genesis Shows Interest in Racing, But No Developments So Far

Genesis, a luxury automotive brand, has made a bold statement at the New York Auto Show, revealing its “Magma” project, a series of high-performance vehicles that will spearhead their respective model lines.

In a surprise move, the brand has also enlisted the expertise of six-time Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx as a consultant and ambassador. Ickx’s involvement has sparked speculation about Genesis’ potential entry into the world of motorsports.

Genesis’ Interest in Racing (Genesis)

While the brand’s Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, has expressed interest in racing, he has also emphasized the need to wait for the right moment, citing the current instability of motorsport regulations despite electrification.

Despite this, racing is undoubtedly on Genesis’ radar, and Ickx’s involvement is seen as a valuable asset for the “Magma” program. Ickx, who joined Genesis after a visit to Korea, is enthusiastic about being part of a forward-thinking team.

Although his role is not yet comparable to legendary figures like Niki Lauda or Helmut Marko, his involvement suggests Genesis is serious about performance and potentially, racing.

For now, the brand is focused on its “Magma” project, but the future may hold exciting developments in the world of motorsports. With its increased presence in the Gran Turismo series and Ickx’s expertise, Genesis is poised to make a remarkable impact in the performance car arena, and possibly, the racing world.
