Google Chrome is Arriving on Android Automotive

At CES 2024, Google announced exciting updates for Android Auto and Google built-in, enhancing the driving experience for electric vehicle owners and car enthusiasts alike.

With Android Auto, EV owners will soon be able to share real-time battery information with Google Maps, estimating battery capacity upon arrival at their destination.

This feature, previously exclusive to cars with Google built-in, will roll out to Android Auto users starting with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, followed by other EVs in the near future.

For cars with native Google apps (Google built-in), users can now send driving directions directly from their smartphone to their vehicle, regardless of whether they use an iPhone or Android device.

Additionally, Chrome browsing is available to select vehicles with Android Automotive, starting with Volvo and Polestar models.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath welcomed the update, highlighting the convenience of having a browser connected to their Google account, complete with personalized preferences.

Google is also expanding its app offerings for cars with Google built-in, adding video streaming services like PBS Kids, Crunchyroll, and The Weather Channel app.

These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to enhancing the in-car experience, despite growing concerns about distracting interfaces and restrictions from major automakers like GM.

As the in-car software continues to evolve, Google remains at the forefront of innovation, providing seamless connectivity and convenience for drivers.
