New York Yankees Bolster Pitching Staff by Signing Right-handed Pitcher Cody Poteet

The New York Yankees have signed right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet to a one-year contract, bolstering their pitching staff after trading four pitchers to the San Diego Padres in the Juan Soto deal.

Poteet, 29, is recovering from Tommy John surgery and has minor league experience with a 4.45 ERA in 58⅔ innings pitched. He was a fourth-round pick by the Marlins in 2015 and has a minor league record of 19-39 in 100 starts and four relief appearances.

Poteet’s last major league appearance was on July 16, 2022, for the Marlins, where he allowed five runs in the eighth inning of a 10-0 loss to Philadelphia.

After refusing an outright assignment, he became a free agent and signed a minor league contract with Kansas City. He made a two-inning start for Triple-A Omaha at Columbus on September 23, marking his return to the mound.

The Yankees are looking to replenish their staff after sending Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vásquez, and Drew Thorpe to the Padres, along with catcher Kyle Higashioka.
