Hyundai is gearing up to showcase the performance capabilities of its Ioniq 5 N electric vehicle at the prestigious Pikes Peak hill climb event. Four Ioniq 5 N models will participate in the event, with two production-spec vehicles aiming to set a new record in the electric production SUV/crossover category.
To ensure safety, the production vehicles will feature a roll cage, Recaro racing seats, and a fire suppression system, but will retain their standard dual-motor setup, producing up to 641 horsepower.
Two modified Ioniq 5 N vehicles will also participate, driven by experienced drivers Dani Sordo and Robin Shute. The event will serve as a test for the Ioniq 5 N ahead of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Hyundai is eager to demonstrate the performance potential of its EV, with the Ioniq 5 N boasting a 0-60 mph time of 3.25 seconds and a top speed of 162 mph.
The Pikes Peak hill climb is a grueling 12.42-mile course with 156 turns, elevation gain of 4,725 feet, and a finish line at 14,115 feet above sea level. While the Ioniq 5 N may not challenge the outright record set by the purpose-built Volkswagen I.D. R, Hyundai aims to showcase its performance capabilities and cement its position in the EV market.
