Rivian’s 2025 R1S and R1T Models Offer Extended Driving Range of Up to 420 Miles and Significant Upgrades

2025 Rivian R1T and R1S (Rivian)

Rivian is gearing up to launch affordable electric models, including the R2 crossover and R3 and R3X hatchbacks, but their release is still a year or more away. In the meantime, the company is focused on refining its original EVs, the R1T and R1S.

The second-generation models boast the same distinctive retro-modern design but with remarkable upgrades under the hood. These enhancements include a new electrical architecture, in-house-built drive units, and the introduction of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery packs for the base version.

The tri-motor variant packs an impressive 850 horsepower, propelling the vehicle from 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the quad-motor model boasts a staggering 1,025 hp, achieving the same feat in a mere 2.5 seconds. The entry-level models now utilize LFP battery packs, offering a range of 270 miles, while the Large and Max packs deliver up to 420 miles of range.

Rivian has also overhauled the electrical architecture, infotainment system, and camera hardware, introducing a new autonomy platform with advanced driver assistance features.

The Highway Assist system enables auto steering, braking, and acceleration on select highways, while the premium Autonomy Platform+ offers additional features like Lane Change on Command and Enhanced Driver Assist.

The updated R1S and R1T models come with a price tag to match their impressive specs, starting at $75,900 and $69,900, respectively. While the quad-motor variants’ pricing has yet to be announced, Rivian has confirmed that deliveries of the R1S will commence on June 7, with the R1T following soon after. As Rivian continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle technology, it’s clear that these updates are just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the company.
