WWE Comments on the Passing of Lanny Poffo, Who Died at 68

The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Lanny Poffo, who passed away at the age of 68. This news was first shared by “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan on his Instagram on Thursday afternoon. The cause of Poffo’s death has not yet been disclosed.

Poffo’s extensive wrestling career began in the 1970s during the era of regional promotions, including the National Wrestling Alliance. He later moved to International Championship Wrestling, which was operated by his father, Angelo Poffo.

Following his time with the Continental Wrestling Association and Mid-South Wrestling, Poffo joined the World Wrestling Federation from 1985 to 1992. There, he gained fame for his distinctive heel persona and poetic promos.

After his WWF tenure, Poffo competed in World Championship Wrestling from 1995 to 1999. His final match took place in January 2020 for Survival Championship Wrestling in Rensselaer, New York.

He also had the honor of inducting his brother, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2020, Poffo made a memorable appearance on “AEW Dynamite” in a tribute to Memphis Wrestling legends.

Beyond wrestling, Poffo was a published author and actor. He wrote “Limericks from the Heart and Lungs!” and released a biographical comic titled “The Genius of Lanny Poffo” in 2018. He also starred in films such as “Curse of the Wolf” and “Ninja: Prophecy of Death.”
