Hyundai Motor Company and Asan Medical Center commemorated the donation of Hyundai Motor’s innovative medical wearable robot, ‘X-ble MEX,’ designed to assist patients and enhance collaborative research efforts. In March, Hyundai Motor inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Asan Medical Center and the Citizens’ Coalition for Safety.

This agreement signifies a two-year pledge to provide rehabilitation services to paraplegic patients using two wearable robots and to pursue joint research on Hyundai’s future mobility device. Developed by Hyundai Robotics Lab, the ‘X-ble MEX’ aims to aid in lower muscle rehabilitation and joint mobility enhancement.

Enhancing Mobility for People with Disabilities is the Company’s Goal (Hyundai)

This robot is especially beneficial for paraplegic patients as it supports various movements such as walking on flat surfaces, climbing stairs, and transitioning between sitting and standing.

Approved by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a medical device, the ‘X-ble MEX’ is also in the process of obtaining certification in the U.S., with its battery tested for user safety.

The ‘X-ble’ brand represents Hyundai Robotics Lab’s line of wearable robots for medical and industrial applications. The name combines ‘X’ to denote the boundless potential of robotics technology, and ‘able’ to signify capability. The ‘X-ble MEX’ is the inaugural product in this series, with plans for further expansion.

Hyundai Motor has recently signed an MOU with the National Rehabilitation Center in Korea. These partnerships aim to evaluate the impact of exoskeleton robots on medical rehabilitation.

Globally, Hyundai Motor has been undertaking Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiatives under the ‘Hyundai Continue’ banner launched in 2022. This initiative underscores Hyundai Motor’s unwavering commitment to a sustainable future.

By developing mobility technologies and fostering collaboration, the company seeks to enhance mobility for individuals with disabilities.
