Derek Carr Says Goodbye to Las Vegas Raiders in Heartfelt Letter to Fans

NFL quarterback Derek Carr penned an emotional farewell to the Las Vegas Raiders after nine impactful years with the franchise, expressing deep gratitude to the team’s loyal fanbase in a heartfelt letter.

“I’m deeply saddened not to have had the chance to bid farewell in person,” Carr wrote. “Our journey over these nine years has been a roller coaster ride.

From the bottom of my heart, I’m immensely grateful for the unwavering support you’ve shown me and my family. We’ve shared heartbreaking moments and exhilarating game-winning drives, and it always felt like you were right there beside me.”

Drafted by the franchise in 2014, then based in Oakland, Carr swiftly became a cornerstone as the starting quarterback, guiding the team through both highs and lows.

However, this past season proved to be a challenging chapter for Carr, marked by his lowest career passing rating, his lowest completion percentage since his rookie year, and a career-high in interceptions. Finally, he was sidelined for the Raiders’ final two games, both losses against the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

In December 2021, the three-time Pro Bowler had voiced his unyielding loyalty to the Raiders, stating, “I am a Raider for life. I will support one team for the rest of my life – the Raiders.” Despite the season’s difficulties, Carr reiterated his commitment: “The fire inside me to win a championship still burns brightly. It’s a fire that no one can extinguish, only God.”

Departing with numerous franchise quarterback records, including passing yards and touchdown passes, Carr’s personal achievements contrast with the team’s limited playoff appearances. His lone playoff game ended in defeat in the Wild Card round against the Cincinnati Bengals last season.

This season, hopes were high with the addition of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, Carr’s close friend and college teammate. Many anticipated a strong playoff push, but the Raiders finished with a disappointing 6-11 record, with backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham stepping in for Carr.

Despite the abrupt ending, Carr remains a highly sought-after veteran quarterback in the league. His contract extension guarantees him $40 million if he remains with the Raiders or agrees to a trade before February 15, with a no-trade clause granting him considerable control over his next career move.
