Kenny Omega has been a central figure in AEW since the promotion’s inception in 2019. However, his future with the company is now uncertain as his contract is nearing its end and WWE is reportedly interested in signing him.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega’s contract was originally set to expire in January. However, due to AEW extending his deal to account for the time he missed in 2022 due to injuries, Omega will stay with the company through most of 2023.
Meltzer explained, “Omega’s AEW contract was scheduled to end in January, following a four-year deal with no option clause that started on February 1, 2019. AEW has the right to extend his contract for the duration he was sidelined with injuries, which happened to be nine months. While this extension could last until November, the exact length of the extension has not been finalized yet.”
