The production of the fourth season of VICE’s “Dark Side of the Ring” is now underway. This acclaimed documentary series, which delves into controversial events in professional wrestling history, will include episodes focusing on the late Bam Bam Bigelow, Abdullah the Butcher, and the late Mike Awesome, according to PWInsider.
Interviews with Mick Foley, Jim Cornette, Terry Funk, and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan have been conducted for the season.
Bam Bam Bigelow, whose wrestling career spanned promotions such as New Japan Pro-Wrestling, WWE, WCW, ECW, and Memphis Wrestling, faced personal struggles. During his youth, he was frequently arrested and served a six-month prison sentence in Mexico City. Later in life, Bigelow battled health issues and addiction before his passing in January 2007.
Abdullah the Butcher, a WWE Hall of Famer renowned for his participation in hardcore matches globally, has numerous scars from blading. In 2014, he was ordered to pay $2.3 million to Canadian wrestler Devon Nicholson, who accused Butcher of blading without permission and transmitting hepatitis C. Mike Awesome, who made headlines for leaving ECW while still the reigning ECW World Champion to join WCW, was tragically found dead in February 2007.
“Dark Side of the Ring,” created by Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, originally aired in 2019 and has previously covered events such as the Montreal Screwjob and Vince McMahon’s steroid trial. Chris Jericho has served as the narrator since the show’s second season.
