Cody Rhodes vowed to capture the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship from Roman Reigns during his promo exchange with Paul Heyman on “WWE Raw,” but WWE initially had different plans for him regarding WrestleMania 39, according to Dave Meltzer on “Wrestling Observer Radio.”
The original plan involved creating a new title that would be defended on Night One of WrestleMania, with Reigns defending his titles on Night Two. Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins were considered for the new title, aiming to re-establish two top titles.
This concept was contingent on The Rock’s participation at WrestleMania 39. There was an ambitious idea for The Rock to win the Royal Rumble and face Reigns at WrestleMania.
However, Rhodes won the Rumble instead, and The Rock isn’t slated for a WrestleMania match this year due to his Hollywood commitments preventing him from getting ring-ready.
Rhodes is now set to challenge Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania. However, a twist remains possible, as Reigns must first defend his titles against Sami Zayn at the upcoming Elimination Chamber event.
