Seeing your children succeed is a universal parental aspiration, but for Donna Kelce, the success of her two sons presents a unique dilemma.
Donna’s sons, Jason and Travis Kelce, are prominent NFL players, with Jason as an All-Pro center for the Philadelphia Eagles and Travis as an All-Pro tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. On Sunday, both sons secured their places in Super Bowl LVII in Arizona, marking a memorable day for the Kelce family.
This historic event will make Donna the first mother to have two sons play against each other in the Super Bowl, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Donna celebrated their achievement with a tweet: “#HeightsHighandUCBearcatSuperBowl,” referencing their shared alma maters, Cleveland Heights High School and the University of Cincinnati.
Though they won’t face each other on the field—both play on offense—the game will be an emotional rollercoaster for Donna as she watches her sons vie for their second Super Bowl titles.
Jason was pivotal in the Eagles’ dominant NFC Championship win over the San Francisco 49ers, while Travis had seven catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Due to the scheduling of the conference championship games, Donna couldn’t attend both matches as she had in previous years. Last postseason, she managed to travel from Tampa to Kansas City in a single day to watch both teams’ Wild Card games.
This year, she watched Jason’s game in person in Philadelphia before catching Travis’ game on screen at Lincoln Financial Field. “It’s your hopes and dreams coming true, but it’s your worst fears,” Donna told PJ Ziegler of FOX 8. “Somebody is going to go home a loser, and neither one of them lose very well.”
