Tobias Sühlmann, formerly the Head of Exterior Design at Bentley, has been promoted to a new role as part of the luxury marque’s ongoing evolution.
Joining Bentley in October 2021, Sühlmann brought with him two decades of experience in automotive design from prestigious brands such as McLaren, Aston Martin, Bugatti, and Volkswagen.
His design career began at Volkswagen’s Potsdam Design Centre in 2005, and he later moved to Volkswagen Design in Wolfsburg, where he worked on remarkable models like the Passat, Arteon, and Touareg, as well as various show cars.
At Bentley, Sühlmann played a crucial role in shaping the Bentley Batur, a project that represents the beginning of a new design era for the brand.
Under the guidance of Andreas Mindt, Sühlmann’s work on the Batur established a fresh design DNA that will influence Bentley’s future lineup of battery-electric vehicles.
In his new position, Sühlmann will report directly to Dr. Matthias Rabe, Bentley’s Board Member for Research and Development. Dr. Rabe praised Sühlmann’s impact on the company, saying, “Tobias has made a very important, positive impression since joining us in 2021.
His previous experiences in luxury automotive design, combined with a strong understanding of the Bentley brand and the Volkswagen Group, make him perfectly suited to help us achieve our future ambitions as leaders in sustainable luxury mobility.”
