Backstage Insights into Potential Reconciliation Between CM Punk and AEW

For those eagerly anticipating CM Punk’s return to AEW, it’s important to know that serious obstacles remain. On a recent episode of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” Dave Meltzer discussed the repercussions of the “Brawl Out” incident, highlighting the extensive damage caused.

Meltzer noted that while AEW’s ratings have struggled lately, prompting some to hope for Punk’s comeback, resolving the issues from that night is far from complete. He had previously reported that Chris Jericho was actively opposing Punk’s return, leaving the decision up to AEW owner Tony Khan.

Meltzer elaborated that the damage extended beyond a simple confrontation, involving broader brand issues. “It wasn’t just that he yelled at The Young Bucks; it was an attack on the brand itself,” Meltzer said, reflecting on Punk’s infamous comments post-All Out.

According to Meltzer, there is still considerable unresolved conflict between Punk and AEW, and no efforts have been made to address these issues.

“There’s a lot of mending of fences that need to be done, and there’s been no mending of fences at all,” Meltzer stated. He also mentioned that Punk might be back in two months, but how that return disclosed will be a remarkable story.

Since Punk’s last appearance, following his tricep injury during his match with Jon Moxley, AEW has seen stagnant ratings for “Dynamite” and a sharp decline for “Rampage.”
