Jurgen Klopp Points to Inconsistent Attack as Cause of Mo Salah’s ‘Suffering’

Mo Salah, once the leading light of Liverpool’s attacking force, is experiencing a challenging season despite widespread disruption in the team’s offensive line-up.

Salah has scored only once in his last six matches, a slump attributed to the ongoing injury issues that have plagued key players, including Luis Diaz and Darwin Núñez.

This has exacerbated the impact of losing Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich last season, breaking up the once cohesive front three that had been a cornerstone of Liverpool’s success.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp highlighted the challenges of maintaining offensive consistency with so many changes, emphasizing that the team’s offensive strategy requires intricate coordination and adaptability.

Salah, who scored 23 Premier League goals and won the Golden Boot in the 2021/22 season, has netted just seven goals in 19 games this year. Liverpool’s current position in ninth place in the Premier League, with fewer goals scored and more conceded than in previous seasons under Klopp, underscores broader issues beyond Salah’s form.

Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool’s problems extend beyond Salah’s performance, noting the frequent changes in midfield and the lack of a stable foundation.

He is hopeful that January signing Cody Gakpo, who can play both as a winger and a central forward, will provide a much-needed boost to Liverpool’s attacking options. Liverpool will next face Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
