University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was arrested early Sunday morning in Dallas for public intoxication, according to the Dallas Police Department.
At around 6 a.m. CT, officers responded to reports of a man banging on doors in the vicinity of the 1600 block of Tribeca Way. Upon arrival, they identified the individual as 25-year-old Bennett and assessed him to be intoxicated.
Bennett was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the City Detention Center, where he was charged with public intoxication. The police statement did not provide details on whether Bennett has retained legal representation at this time.
WFAA, a CNN affiliate, reported that Bennett was released from the detention center just before 11 a.m. CT on the same day. Attempts to reach Bennett for further comment have been unsuccessful.
As a walk-on quarterback, Bennett played a crucial role in leading the Georgia Bulldogs to national championships in the past two football seasons.
He was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2022 and earned the title of Offensive MVP in the College Football Playoff National Championship Games of 2021 and 2022, according to his University of Georgia profile.
