On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles secured a decisive 31-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Lincoln Financial Field, propelling them to Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles dominated from the start, scoring on their initial drive and maintaining control throughout the game.
The 49ers faced a setback early when rookie quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a right elbow injury in the first quarter, following a hit from Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick that caused a fumble. Purdy was briefly replaced by Josh Johnson, the fourth-string quarterback, who also exited the game with a concussion in the third quarter.
Although Purdy returned to play with the injured elbow, the 49ers struggled offensively. Meanwhile, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts led a potent rushing attack, accumulating 148 yards and scoring all four touchdowns on the ground.
With a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown, Hurts surpassed Cameron Newton’s record for most rushing touchdowns in a single season by a quarterback, including playoffs, as noted by NFL Research.
The Eagles, making their first Super Bowl appearance since their 2017-18 championship win, will face the winner of the AFC Championship between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Super Bowl LVII is scheduled for February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
