The 2023 FIS Para World Snowboard Championships, originally scheduled for this month in La Molina, Spain, have been postponed due to a significant lack of snow.
The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced that the competition will now take place from March 9 to March 18, 2023.
FIS’s statement on the matter read: “Due to the unusually warm weather conditions across Central Europe during the holiday season, La Molina is currently facing severe snow shortages. As a result, we have decided to postpone the 2023 FIS Para World Snowboard Championships to a later date.
We appreciate the Organizing Committee’s dedication and flexibility in adapting to these challenges and look forward to hosting a successful event in March.”
This postponement reflects a broader impact of mild winter conditions on winter sports, with recent cancellations of World Cup events in the Alps regions of Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.
Despite the change in schedule for the Para Snowboard Championships, the FIS confirmed that the Para Nordic and Alpine World Ski Championships will still be held as planned in Östersund, Sweden, and Espot, Spain.
FIS also took the opportunity to thank the La Molina Organizing Committee: “We are grateful to the Organizing Committee for their commitment to ensuring a high-quality World Championship experience for the athletes despite the challenging conditions.”
