During his rookie season, Kenny Pickett gave glimpses of potential as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback, though concerns lingered. Despite a modest average of 6.2 yards per attempt and more interceptions (nine) than touchdowns (seven), the Steelers rallied to finish 7-2 after their bye week, following a shaky start.

After stepping into the starting role in Week 4 against the Jets, Pickett managed five touchdowns and just one interception in his last nine games, spearheading four game-winning drives in the fourth quarter.

This strong finish has head coach Mike Tomlin optimistic about Pickett’s potential for a serious improvement this season.

“I’m thrilled about Kenny’s growth and his commitment to reaching his potential,” Tomlin shared at the league’s annual owners meetings in Phoenix. “My excitement has only increased after working closely with him for a year. While there was anticipation due to our close interactions, the past 12 months have proven his dedication, professionalism, and maturity, which is incredibly promising.”

The Steelers selected Pickett in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He had a standout career at Pittsburgh following an impressive stint at Ocean Township High in New Jersey. He ranked third in the 2021 Heisman Trophy voting and was the first New Jersey native to be a finalist for the award since Jabrill Peppers in 2016.
