The Browns’ Plan for Former Jets Receiver, Who they Probably Signed for a Steep Discount

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is expressing amazement over the trade that brought wide receiver Elijah Moore from the Jets. Last week, the Browns acquired Moore, who had been dissatisfied with his role in New York, along with a third-round pick in exchange for a second-round selection.

Stefanski, speaking at the NFL meetings in Phoenix, highlighted Moore’s potential, saying, “He’s the type of player you want to get the ball to in various ways. Watching his college tape, you see numerous deep throws and opportunities to utilize him in different scenarios—whether handing him the ball, throwing over the middle, or targeting him on the outside. There are countless ways to leverage his skills.”

As the Jets hold three of the top 50 picks in the upcoming draft (Nos. 13 and 43, plus No. 42 from the Browns), speculation arises about whether these picks might be used to trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Jets’ decision to trade Moore, who they found to be a problematic underachiever, raises questions about the scouting process regarding his character.

While Douglas secured the 42nd pick in exchange for Moore, some argue that trading a 2021 second-round pick, known for his 4.35 speed, after just two disappointing seasons reflects poor judgment. The Jets also lost an early third-round pick, which could have been valuable.

Moore, frustrated after not being targeted in an October win against the Packers, voiced his displeasure on social media and had a confrontation with then-offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur.

This incident led to Moore requesting a trade. Consequently, he played a diminished role, finishing the season with 37 catches for 446 yards and one touchdown, a remarkable drop from his rookie season performance.
