Saints Medical Staff Saves Two Lives Including Ex Eagles Player Before Foster Moreaus Miraculous Recovery

The New Orleans Saints’ medical team has once again made a potentially life-saving discovery, marking the second such instance in six years. During a routine physical exam, NFL free agent Foster Moreau was diagnosed with cancer. On Wednesday, Moreau announced that he will be stepping away from football to focus on his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

At 25, Moreau had spent the previous four seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, starting the majority of games over the last two years. He had visited the Cincinnati Bengals and the Saints during free agency, and it was with the Saints that he received the unexpected diagnosis.

Moreau shared his situation, stating, “Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life-changing for me. During a routine physical conducted by the Saints’ medical team, I was informed that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I will be stepping away from football to fight this new opponent: cancer.

I’m deeply grateful for the support and thankful for those who have stood by me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without the guidance of many, and I will continue to seek their support. I’m determined to overcome this challenge and return to what I love. AMDG!”

A standout at LSU, Moreau was drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Over his four-year career, he recorded 91 catches for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns, with his most remarkable season being the previous fall, when he made 33 receptions for 420 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2017, the Saints’ medical team also discovered an aortic aneurysm in former Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos, leading to life-saving open-heart surgery. Dorenbos recovered and transitioned to a successful career as a magician, competing on “America’s Got Talent.”
