Day of Decision Arrives for Ex-Yankees Slugger: Multiple Teams Interested

Voit, who has been hitting exceptionally well for the Brewers, is eager for a contract and a spot on their roster immediately. However, the Brewers have been non-committal, repeatedly saying, “Maybe tomorrow.”

The deadline for Voit has now arrived, and Friday marks the ultimatum he has set for the Brewers to finalize their decision. While he prefers to stay with the team, he has received an offer of $5 million from another club for a roster spot right now.

Since clinching the AL home run title with the Yankees during the shortened 2020 season, Voit has moved through several teams: the Yankees, Padres, Nationals, and now the Brewers. Despite giving the Brewers an additional week to decide, there’s still a possibility he could be on the move again.

There remains ample time for another team to sign him before the season commences. Voit is keen to settle quickly as he and his wife, Tori, are expecting their second child in June, with their first daughter already 2 years old.

Voit shared his thoughts with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “I’m interested in this opportunity, and the early opt-out was included in case another chance arises, like an injury creating an opening elsewhere. It also serves to apply some pressure on them.”

Voit expressed his frustration: “There’s not much more I can do, but it seems like they want to keep their roster spots flexible. We’re close to resolving this, but if nothing happens this weekend, we’ll see what uncovers next week.”

Despite the uncertainty, Voit remains focused: “I’m performing well and enjoying the experience. I’m taking care of myself and doing my best.”
