Volvo experienced a strong start to the year in January, with European sales reaching 21,436 cars, a remarkable 14.7 percent increase from the previous year. This growth was driven primarily by robust performances in the UK, Italy, and Belgium.
A specific portion of these sales was attributed to Recharge models, which encompass both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, making up 59.8 percent of the total sales for the region.
Across the Atlantic, Volvo saw US sales rise to 7,693 cars, marking an 8.2 percent year-over-year increase. Recharge models in the US also made up a substantial share of sales, accounting for 30.8 percent of the total sales for the month.
In China, however, Volvo faced a decline in sales, which fell by 19.5 percent to 11,783 cars. This drop was largely attributed to the timing of the Chinese New Year, which impacted the month’s sales figures.
Despite the decrease, Recharge models represented 10.7 percent of the sales in the region.
January’s sales figures highlighted the popularity of Volvo’s XC60, which emerged as the brand’s best-selling model with 16,016 units sold, up from 14,516 units in January 2022.
The XC40 followed closely with 14,038 vehicles sold, a remarkable increase from the 12,286 units sold in the same month the previous year.
The XC90 also saw a modest rise, with 7,438 cars sold compared to 7,243 units in January 2022.
January’s performance underscored Volvo’s continued growth in key markets and the increasing appeal of its Recharge lineup.
