The news of Spencer’s passing was confirmed by the University of Louisville, where he played college basketball. According to a tweet from his youngest sister, Tammy Pollock, Spencer, an Eastern High School graduate, died peacefully on Sunday.

Pollock expressed gratitude on Twitter, noting that Spencer received exceptional care in his final moments at the University of Louisville Hospital, a place he held dear.

She thanked the hospital staff and everyone involved in his care, reflecting on his achievements both on the court and in his personal life. “He was a kind, gentle giant whose presence will be greatly missed,” Pollock said, while finding solace in the support from friends and well-wishers.

Spencer was selected by the Timberwolves as the sixth overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. The University of Louisville paid tribute to him, highlighting his status as the Cardinals’ all-time leader in career field goal percentage and expressing condolences for his loss.
