Super Bowl Double Agent: Eagles Quietly Enlist NFL Coach To Strategize Against Chiefs

The Super Bowl now features a surprising twist. Vic Fangio, set to become the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator, discreetly signed a two-week contract to assist the Philadelphia Eagles in their preparation for Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to NFL.com, Fangio helped the offense rather than the defense. He focused on self-scouting and special projects, aiding Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen’s unit in preparation for Steve Spagnuolo’s Chiefs defense.

Rumors had circulated about Fangio consulting with the Eagles this season after his stint as the Broncos head coach from 2019-2021, but he chose to take a break and travel instead.

When the regular season concluded, Eagles coaches, with whom Fangio is close, reached out and asked, “Do you want to join us for this ride?” Fangio agreed and promptly signed his contract.

The Chiefs are making their third Super Bowl appearance in four years after winning another AFC Championship. They secured Super Bowl 54 against the 49ers post-2019 season but fell to the Buccaneers after 2020.

Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who recently won his second MVP award, the Chiefs also boast stars like tight end Travis Kelce and defensive lineman Chris Jones.

The Philadelphia Eagles, having clinched the NFC Championship, aim for their second Super Bowl victory in six years. They are led by quarterback and MVP finalist Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and linebacker Haason Reddick.
