Eagles Implement Unexpected Roster Moves Just Before Super Bowl Vs. Chiefs

One day before Super Bowl LVII, the Philadelphia Eagles activated punter Arryn Siposs from injured reserve, making him available for the game on Sunday. In addition, the Eagles promoted safety Anthony Harris and wide receiver Greg Ward from the practice squad to the active roster for their clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Siposs had been out since Week 14 with an ankle injury sustained against the New York Giants. After returning to practice this week, he’s set to take over punting duties from Brett Kern, who struggled in his temporary role.

This season, Siposs averaged 45.6 yards per punt with a 40.5-yard net average. Kern averaged 42.2 yards per punt with a 37.7-yard net average and had a shaky performance in the NFC Championship Game, including a punt into the end zone, a controversial shanked punt, and a roughing penalty.

Ward’s promotion offers additional depth at punt returner and wide receiver, providing insurance in case Britain Covey, who is questionable with a hamstring injury, cannot play. Covey has been the Eagles’ main punt returner this season, with an average of 9.3 yards per return on 33 attempts.

The Eagles spent the afternoon with their families before gathering at their team hotel for the night. Head coach Nick Sirianni advised players to keep their pre-game routines normal and avoid any unusual activities. “We know tomorrow is going to be a long day,” Sirianni said. “So, relax, stay off your feet. Do what you normally do.”
