The Jets have been without a Super Bowl victory since Joe Namath stunned the world by defeating the Baltimore Colts 54 years ago. Despite numerous analyses and articles trying to unravel Joe Benigno’s frustration, none have pinpointed the real issue: Namath sacrificed his fate for “The Guarantee.”
A caller on WFAN connected the dots on Monday, though he might have been influenced by Aaron Rodgers’ rumored use of psychedelics.
“The theory I’m sharing today suggests that Aaron Rodgers needs to be our quarterback, regardless of his psychedelic use,” declared Rich from Fishkill on WFAN. “The theory I’m proposing is that Joe Namath sold his soul to the devil in 1969, and that’s why the Jets have been dreadful for the past 54 years.”
Rich didn’t mention recent quarterbacks like Josh McCown, Bryce Petty, Sam Darnold, Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson, or Mike White, despite their struggles over the past five years. He even told Boomer Esiason that he considers Esiason one of his “favorite Jets quarterbacks,” although the team went 15-27 during Esiason’s tenure.
Esiason responded with a joke: “I was on my psychedelic journey back then!” Rich believes Rodgers’ psychedelic experiences might offer a solution. “I think Aaron Rodgers is learning how to confront and overcome the devil when he steps onto MetLife Stadium,” Rich said.
