Jason Kelce, the Eagles center who has been contemplating retirement since his Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and his brother Travis, has decided to return for one more season.
On Twitter, Kelce shared his decision on Monday, stating, “I have given much consideration to whether continuing for another season is worthwhile. After discussions with my wife and many close friends and family, I’ve decided to play for another year. Thanks to all who have supported and challenged me—I’m not finished yet!”
Kelce celebrated his decision with Eagles GM Howie Roseman, who raised a toast to next year’s Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Following the Super Bowl, ESPN’s Adam Schefter had mentioned that Kelce was expected to announce his decision “in the weeks ahead.”
Schefter reported, “Kelce was anticipated to finalize his decision before the new league year starts next month, and the Eagles hoped to have his choice by then. However, sources suggested that Super Bowl LVII might potentially mark the end of Kelce’s illustrious NFL career.”
At 35, Kelce secured his first Super Bowl ring five years ago when the Eagles triumphed over the New England Patriots, 41-33, in Super Bowl LII. Travis Kelce, his 33-year-old brother, claimed his first Super Bowl ring three years ago when the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20, in Super Bowl LIV. Travis is a four-time All-Pro and an eight-time Pro Bowl selection.
