Variety has revealed that Andy Kaufman will be honored with an induction into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame. The identity of his inducting presenter remains unknown.
Kaufman, a prominent comedian of the 1970s and 1980s, gained fame through his role in the TV show “Taxi,” which aired from 1978 to 1983.
In the wrestling world, Kaufman is remembered for his infamous feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler in Memphis. He gained notoriety for staging matches with women he selected from the audience, which fueled his wrestling persona’s heat. The rivalry intensified when Lawler delivered a piledriver to Kaufman, leading to a memorable appearance on David Letterman’s NBC Late Night show, where Lawler slapped Kaufman.
This segment was depicted in the film “Man on the Moon,” where Jim Carrey played Kaufman.
